Dear Friends,

It is a beautiful November Day as I write this.
Clean sheets are hanging on the line, blowing in the breeze.

I received a newsletter from Kindred Media this morning, which opened with Rumi’s 13th century poem:

“Out beyond ideas of wrong doing and right doing
there is a field. I’ll meet you there.” – Rumi

The editor goes on to share: Rumi’s “… poem gives us clues for where to find allies in transcending culturally engineered conflict.” I found these three words particularly insightful.

Living in this beautiful area, what a blessing it is to be able to be nurtured within our surroundings. Still, there is no denying that we are reeling from many recent devastating events. It is a time beyond understanding that requires our trust and good will.

May we have patience. May we see, and nurture the humanity in each other.

How Long does it take to Heal?

A common question. Dealing with chronic musculo-skeletal challenges, and/or with post-surgical, digestive, reproductive and/or pelvic conditions, the answer is the same:

In my experience, and indeed, in the experiences shared by my teachers, one can expect to be tending to chronic health challenges consistently, one month for each year you have been experiencing symptoms.

For example: if someone has been challenged by a particular problem for 9 years, they can expect to focus their time, energy, and budget…body, mind and spirit, upon their healing process for 9 months.

This is a general rule, and useful to orient yourself to the process of healing.

Enjoy this Recipe for Chai

I keep mason jars of this recipe in the fridge to enjoy hot or cold, as the weather dictates. It is full of digestive and immune enhancing herbs. It makes the house smell wonderful too.

1 gal water

30 cloves

6 star anise

40 black peppercorns

5 sticks cinnamon

30 cardamom pods

16 ginger slices 1/4 inch thick

1t black tea (optional)

Cover at low boil for 1/2 hour, simmer for 2-3 hours covered.

I make it without the black tea, so that I can enjoy any time of day. I add the black tea to small batches, early in the day, as needs be.
